The GameZone Journey: Navigating Challenges, Growth, and Grace

In the wake of the pandemic in 2020, I embarked on a business journey with my best friend, retailing the iconic card game, UNO. What started as a casual tweet announcing our UNO cards quickly evolved into something much bigger. Customers began asking for other board and card games, and we saw an opportunity to meet a growing demand.

Running the business alongside completing my final year of school, which had been interrupted by COVID-19, wasn’t easy. But being surrounded by peers who were part of our target market worked to our advantage. During this period, I realized the importance of branding. With just my phone, Canva, and Adobe Express, I began designing fliers and taking visually appealing photos of our products. This process not only elevated GameZone but also sparked my passion for design—a skill I carry with me to this day.

Even after graduating, I remained committed to GameZone, despite moving away from the built-in market of my school environment. I leaned on faith, believing in the grace that rested on my business and its potential to grow. Over time, we expanded beyond board and card games to meet a new demand: outdoor games. This shift opened the door to renting games for events, creating memorable experiences for our clients.

A significant milestone in our journey was the development of our website, gamezonegh.com. What began as a casual design project in my room using Figma became a live platform that has significantly enhanced our business operations. The website serves as a digital showcase of our offerings, enabling us to present our products and services professionally during meetings with prominent companies. Through this process, I gained valuable insights into web development and design, further contributing to GameZone’s growth.

Running a business in Ghana has been an incredible learning experience, especially in navigating challenges like rising exchange rates, taxes on online businesses, and economic fluctuations. Despite these hurdles, GameZone has grown steadily, becoming a registered company with an ever-expanding catalog of games. Today, we don’t just provide games—we deliver joy and connection through GameZone Events.

Through it all, I’ve learned the importance of hard work, innovation, and including God in every decision. I’ve seen His hand in opening doors I couldn’t have imagined and in sustaining the business through difficult seasons. As we continue to grow and improve, I’m excited to see what the future holds for GameZone. The journey has been nothing short of amazing, and I’m grateful for every lesson learned along the way.
